massive of unbedded crystalline ‘ Schiern Dolomite ’ resting upon the Tuff, and rising up from its surface on all sides in perpendieular walk. Ahove these precipices, appears a narrow sloping ledge, forrned of Baibl beds, and upon this is planted a series of short escarpments, terminating in thè background in a multitude of truncated cones, with rocky winding gorges between tbem, li ned with débris, the whole formed of lower Lias Dolomite. The Guerdenazza has somewhat similar features, but on a rauch

larger scale, and it sends out long arms of precipice to the west and north-east The Baibl beds, by tbus interposing a stage between thè upper and lower tier of precipices, immensely enbance the scenic effeet of the whole mass. This kind of effeet may be said, perhaps, to culminate in Monte Nuvulau, a rauch smaller Massive, that dominates the ascent- of the pass from Santa Lucia, by Monte Gusella, to Cortina.
