They were, until this year, the only buildings existing here, but now several villas are being erected, and at the nearer end of the lake a large hotel is going up. The lake is about half a mile long and a quarter of a mile broad, and, at its greatest depth, about twelve feet. It is famous for its trout. Giuseppe Ciani, in his history of Cadore, speaks of the lake and district changing hands in a.D. 788, so that its written history goes back over eleven hundred
