Persönlich ist mir jedoch immer noch der Personenname Roman - Roman’ lieber: 'Wiese des Roman'. Das Fehlen der Präposition de ist normal (vgl. Exemplarisch ist hie- für ein Hinweis bei Planta 1776, 52-55, der sich dabei auf Fontanini 1737 beruft, welch letzterer wiederum auf Henri Estienne (zwar ohne Nennung des Werkes; dieses ist aber philologisch eruierbar: 1582, Hypomneses) ver weist. Aus der wissenschaftshistorischen Perspektive des 20. Jahrhunderts darf

angenommen werden, daß eine wesentliche faktische Quelle dieser Auffassungen das Vorhandensein örtlicher Sprachbezeichnungen (Glotto- nyme) auf roman, reman etc. (< lat. ROMANICE) war. Diesbezügliche phi lologische Untersuchungen zeigen (z.B. Koll 1957-58, 113-115, 160 und FEW X, 452-457, sub voce ROMANICE), daß sich vulgärsprachliche (i. e. vor allem alt-, mittel- und neufranzösische) und mittellateinische Fortset zer des Etymons ROMANICE in Nordfrankreich bis zum 14. Jahrhundert, in Ostfrankreich

bis zum 17. Jahrhundert und in der Welschschweiz (also in der Suisse Romandel ) bis heute erhalten haben. Gerade zur Welschschweiz ist mir durch freundliche Vermittlung von Prof. François Voillat von der Redaktion des "Glossaire des Patois de la Suisse Romande”, Neuchâtel, (das noch nicht den Buchstaben R erreicht hat) eine reichhaltige Doku mentation zugegangen, die die kontinuierliche Vitalität der Resultate von lat. ROMANICE (> roman(d), reman, romain etc.) als Sprach-, Dialekt-, Einwohner- und Territorialnamen

seit dem 14. Jahrhundert belegt. Siehe dazu auch FEW X, 452-457, sub voce ROMANICE. Die Annahme der Existenz eines roman in der Maurienne (siehe hier Karte 1) beruht - wie schon erwähnt - auf einer Zitiertradition, deren Be ginn bei Henri Estienne (1531-1598) in dessen Werk "Hypomneses” (1582) zu liegen scheint: "Quum enim Sabaudi [= die Savoyarden] atque alij qui Romantico [!] sermone uti se aiunt... (zitiert nach Albrecht 1984, 23). Da diese Zitiertradition bis ins 19. Jahrhundert erhalten bleibt
