The theines of the contending minstrels were, on the one side, the hononr and glory of Hermann, the Landgrave of Thuringia, the lord of the castle ; and on the other, those of Leopold the Glorious, Duke of | Austria, the Landgravine’s father. The four minstrels j first named raised their songs in hononr
of the Landgrave Hermann; thè two latter in favorir of Leopold. After a long contest, Henry of Ofterdingen was dedared vantpiished, bnt, at the Landgravine’s entreatv, the famons master of song, Klingsohr, of Hwngary, was sent for, and allowcd to take his place.
