ROUTE 190. DESCENT OP THE MAIN.-—WURZBURG TO FRANKFURT. 56 Germ. m. = 258 Eng. m. Small Steamers ply daily between Frankfurt and Wurzburg, though they are occasionally stopped in summer by low water in the Main, The fares are excessively cheap; the time occupied is 2 days in the ascent, and one in the descent. The steamboat starts from Frankfort at 5 in the morning, and arrives at Wertheim about 9 p,m,, and readies Wurzburg at half-past 4 next day. In ascending it is a good plan to start from

Frankfurt by the Illy, for Aschaffenburg at 9, see the palace and other objects (see Rte. 167), and join the steamer on its arrival about 12 o’clock. The river from Frankfurt to a few miles beyond Aschaffenburg is uninteresting. If the traveller is not hurried, a day may be pleasantly spent at Miltenburg, and another at Wert- helm, both situated amid beautiful scenery. Lohr too is a good station for pedestrians. The most interesting portion of the scenery of the Main between Gcmiinden and Wallstadt

. There is a clear and portable map of the course of the Main between Bam berg and Mainz, by Spruner, costing -*I6 hr., to be had at the StabtTschen Hnchhandlung at Wurzburg. A Maiiirntf was completed, 1854, be tween Frankfurt and Wurzburg (Rtc. \ 70), which runs chiefly along the valley of the Main. The steamers start at Wurzburg from the quay on the rt. bank of the river, a short distance below the bridge. On the rt., immediately after leaving Wurzburg, is the ftte'mberg, covered with vineyards

Bo- decksche Schhss contains the collection of works of art belonging to Herr v. Fcchenhach. 1 , l| Lengfurt. The road fro® Frankfurt to Wurzburg here crosses the river. (See Rtc. 167.) On the rt. talk is Triefcmich), formerly an Augustine abbey, but secularised in 1803, and now the property and residence of Prince Liiw emtei n-Freudenber g, who has out the land in an agreeable and iurcsqnc park. 1, llombnrg. _ One ^ of ^ places on the Main, having been given in "40 to St. Boni face by Pepin le Brel.
