of St. Paul’s which we see before us in the low lying ground, and affords a superb view over the whole Ueberetsch, the large basin-valley of Botzen-Gries and 36 castles, which are visible from High-Eppan. The train crosses the high road, which leads from Sigmundskron to Girlan, and runs through a long tunnel, after which by looking back, we enjoy a beautiful view of Sigmundskron Castle, the valley of the Adige and the Meran Mountains which appear to end the valley in the North-West. Then the

chapel, is to be seen in a westerly direction, and St. Valentine’s, a plain building of modern times, stands on the mount further to the left. Eppan-Girlan is the next Station, for the village of St. Michael in the Parish of Eppan on the right, and the village of Girlan on the left, a little farther to the South-East. Opposite the station, we lind the High Eppan Grand Hotel. The village of St. Michael contains the following Inns: Eppaner Hof; Sonne; Rossi; Tranbe Englar and Gandegg Castles, both

owned by the Count of Khuen, are beautifully situated to the right on the mountains. The Mendel High Road, which appears like a long line, extends on the upper part ol the slope. High Eppan Castle.
